What is hormone?
Hormone is a
regulatory matter produced in the body of an organism and is transported via
the tissue fluids that include blood and sap to excite specific cells or organs
of the body.
But recently with the development of science it can be made synthetically
that has a similar consequence.
What is
hormone replacement therapy?
Hormone
replacement therapy (HRT) is a specific type of therapy by which the
estrogen and progesterone level of a woman is controlled. It is generally done
to the women who reached menopause and hence the level of estrogen and
progesterone level is decreased.
Hormone
replacement therapy lifts a
woman's intensity of essential hormones.
Hormone
replacement therapy for other purpose-
Hormone
replacement therapy may refer to the male hormonal treatment. It is
generally prescribed for the persons who undertake a gender change.
There are three crucial types of Hormone
replacement therapy for women:
·
Estrogen-only HRT – it is prescribed for the women who underwent a hysterectomy,
i.e., removal of uterus and also ovaries.
·
Cyclical (sequential) HRT – this therapy is prescribed for the women who
are having symptoms of menopause but still they are menstruating. Cycles may occur
monthly, with a dose of estrogen + progesterone at the ending of the cycle of
menstruation for nearly two weeks, or by taking on a daily basis dose that too for
nearly two weeks for consecutive thirteen weeks.
·
Incessant HRT – it
is prescribed for women post-menopause. In this case estrogen and progesterone are
administered continuously.
Hormone
Replacement Therapy or "Elixir of youth"-
A decade ago, the Hormone
replacement therapy was considered as an "Elixir of youth”. But gradually the medical practitioner
found it to be fatal. Hence it is used since then mostly for essential
therapeutic purpose.
Benefits of
HRT-
This therapy has several benefits like in case of low vaginal products
and systemic hormone therapy.
Side effects
of this therapy-
A research was conducted by Danish Cancer Research
Centre who found that longer the treatment in a woman, the higher she is
exposed to risk as reported by the Sun. even HRT has consequences that are life
threatening.
The women, who have undergone HRT for ten years or even more than that, generally
had a 70% chance of having a tumor.
The risk of meningioma can be seen in the women who are under HRT. The
combination of estrogen and progesterone is the main factor leading to
meningioma.
Conclusion-
Though Hormone Replacement
Therapy is considered to be life threatening, till it has several benefits
and sometimes it is seen as a necessary treatment for a woman.
