2013 is a
great year for film buffs. There are many great hollywood movies
2013 which are slated to be shown this year. Most of them, especially the
action movies, stars most of the biggest
names in the film industry. Here is a
list of the top Hollywood movies 2013 we cannot afford to miss this year:
10. Warm Bodies
Director: Jonathan Levine Casting: Nicholas
Hoult and Teresa Palmer
Storyline: The story focuses on R, a zombie
who is living after a zombie apocalypse. He lives with his fellow undead in an
abandoned airport. Just like other zombies, R craves human flesh and human
brains. One day, the zombies were travelling to find food. They stumbled upon a
group of survivors led by Julie. The zombies attacked them but R felt an
attraction with Julie. After killing Julie’s boyfriend, R’s attraction became
stronger. He protected the girl from the rest of the pack, becoming closer in
the process.

Events: During the past few years,
mainstream media had been flooded by films, books and video games about
zombies. This film is based on a novel of the same name by Isaac Marion.
Literary critics described the novel as a zombie- romance which makes allusions
to William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The original name of the novel was
“I am a Zombie Filled with Love.”
9. Stoker
Director: Park Chan- wook Casting: Mia
Wasikowska, Matthew Goode and Nicole Kidman
Storyline: Stoker is about an 18- year old
girl named India who lost her father, Richard, in a terrible car accident.
India and her mother, Evelyn, was left to enjoy the estate left by their head
of household. During Richard’s funeral, his brother showed up. Charlie, the
brother, is charming and charismatic. He even seduced Evelyn into loving her.
India, on the other hand, is reluctant to trust him, especially when she found
out that Charlie is a murdering psychopath.

Story: The film “Shadow of a Doubt” by
Alfred Hitchcock inspired Wentworth Miller to write the script. The writer aims
to create a horror film, a family drama and a psychological thriller rolled
into one. A crime his happened a few years ago when a man killed his own twin
brother to take over his life also inspired this film.
8. Oz the Great and Powerful
Directed: Sam Raimi Casting: James Franco,
Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams
Storyline: This is one of the most
anticipated Hollywood films 2013. Oz tells us the story of Oscar, a magician
who was sucked by a tornado while riding a hot air balloon. He found himself in
Emerald City. Oscar was seen and introduced to Theodora, who believes that the
stranger might be the wizard prophesied to overthrow the Wicked With Glinda.
She took Oscar to Evanora, her sister, who asked him to kill the Wicked Witch.
He found out that Glinda is actually the Good Witch, and Evanora was the Wicked
Witch. A battle ensued to determine the fate of Emerald City.

Story: This film is set to be a prequel
to the original Wizard of Oz novel and the 1939 film. This was originally set
to be animated and was meant to be filmed during the 1950′s. Screenwriter
Mitchel Kapner was a great Oz fans and was really intrigued by exploring the
back stories of the Wizard of Oz.
7. Carrie
Directed
by: Kimberly Peirce Casting: Chloe
Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore
Storyline: Carrie is an introverted girl who
is often bullied at school because of her supposed weirdness. At home, she is
physically and emotionally harassed by her mother. Little do people know that
Carrie is a powerful telepath. When she finally burst because of the anger
against the people who mistreat her, tragedy of horrific proportions occurred.

Story: This is the third adaption of
Stephen King’s novel of the same name. King wrote this when he was still a high
school English teacher. He often feel bad for students who were being bullied.
The film’s writer, Roberto Aguirre- Sacasa, also adapted King’s The Stand into
a comic book in 2008.
6. Oblivion
Directed
by: Joseph Kosinski Casting: Tom
Cruise, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo, Zoe
Bell and Nikolaj Coster- Waldau.
Storyline: It is the year 2077 and Jack
Harper is one of the last drone repairmen on Earth. 60 years had passed since
an alien race known as Scavs invaded the planet. When Jack was on his mission,
he saw a space craft crashing to Earth, and he went to investigate. Inside the
ruins of a space craft was a woman named Julia, whom Jack had seen before in
his dreams. They were captured by Scavs, whom they found out were actually
humans. Jack found out that those he was serving are actually the alien
invaders. Jack and Julia helped the Scavs destroy the invaders.

Story: Kosinki directed, produced, and
wrote this film. He actually wrote graphic novel years before from which the
film is based. Kosinki is a big science fiction fan. He said that the film is
also influenced by the Colonial period, wherein empires and kingdoms like
Spain, Portugal, and England colonized and subjugated Asian nations.
5. A Good Day to Die Hard
Directed
by: John Moore Casting: Bruce Willis
and Jai Courtney
Storyline: John McClane travelled to Russia
to find his son Jack, who was arrested for accounts of assassination. When they
were reunited, John found out that his son is actually an agent from CIA. This
greatly angered the older McClane. They were chased around in Russia by killers
hired to silence Jack. The two McClanes team up to bring down their assailants
and find out the true nature of the man whom Jack was sent to safeguard.

This film is set to the biggest action films 2013. This is the fifth in this
series of John McClane action films. This film is said to be inspired by the
big arms trade which is occurring in parts of Europe, Middle East and Northern
Asia.
4. Man of Steel

Storyline: A journalist Clark Kent was an
adopted son of Jonathan and Martha Kent. In truth, Clark is actually an alien
who was transported to Earth when his home planet was destroyed by warring supermen.
He found out that he possesses great powers. When the world was attacked by
evil forces, Clark becomes the hero Superman.

Story: The story pitches from the comic
book series of the same name. Superman was a personification of the ideal “superman”
idealized by writers and poets during the European Romantic era.
3. World War Z

Storyline: A zombie pandemic engulfs the
whole world. United Nations employee Gerry Lane travels around the world,
trying to find a way to stop the disease from destroying the whole human race.

Max Brooks. This film actually depicts the dangers of capitalism and political
degradation.
2. The Great Gatsby

Storyline: Nick Carraway is an aspiring stock
broker who was befriended by the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby. The film
revolves around Gatsby’s desire to steal the heart of Daisy, Nick’s cousin,
from her husband Tom Buchanan.

winning novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The novel centers on the difficulties of
living during the Great Depression. It depicts that the morals during the
Roaring Twenties is as degraded as its economy.
1. Iron Man 3

Storyline: Tony Stark is still
nursing the trauma he had experience during the alien invasion in New York City
a few months back instigated by Loki. He was then tasked to bring a criminal
named Mandarin to justice. Tony found himself betrayed and bloodied by a
villains more dangerous than what they seem to be.

Story: Iron Man is another genius
invention by Marvel pioneer Stan Lee. The writer said that Iron Man was deemed
to depict the importance of science and technology in bringing justice in
society.
